At this Lecture Notes on Opthalmology book price, I wish that this book had been around last year when I bought a lesser quality text for almost double the price and hardly ever opened it. The content has been thoroughly updated and includes: Over diagrams and photographs A range of core clinical cases in chapter 20 demonstrating the clinical context of key conditions Learning objectives and summary of key points in each chapter Ophthalmology Lecture Notes is perfect for developing knowledge for clinical practice or revision in the run-up to examinations, and uses a systematic approach to provide medical students and junior doctors with all the tools they need to manage clinical situations. Lecture Notes aims to make this a palatable process. Appendix: Visual acuity equivalence table. Only the short sighted would give this book a wide berth.

Appendix: Visual acuity equivalence table. Sight-threatening diabetic retinopathy can be treated effectively by retinal photocoagulation, which ablates ischaemic retina and removes the angiogenic stimulus to vasoproliferation. Parulekar Highly Commended in Internal medicine in the BMA Medical Book Awards Highly illustrated, comprehensive, and accessible, Ophthalmology Lecture Notes is the ideal reference and revision guide to common eye problems and their diagnosis and management. This means that the text can be easily adapted to form the basis of a study course in clinical medicine for students of complementary medicine. The textbook concludes with chapters relating specifically to dealing with patients in practice.

In particular these focus on warning signs of serious disease, supporting patients on medication and ethical issues which may arise from management of patients which is shared with conventional practitioners. Over the course of a decade she developed and taught an undergraduate course for students of Chinese medicine on Western medicine and how it relates to TCM. The book begins with a brief introduction to ocular anatomy and eye examination and then focuses on core conditions in ophthalmology.

It will appeal to medical students, junior doctors, optometry students, practising opticians, general practitioners, and ophthalmic nurses who want a concise introduction to the Lecture Notes on Opthalmology book or an ideal revision companion.

Beginning with overviews of anatomy, history taking, and examination, it then covers a range of core ophthalmic conditions, including a new chapter on paediatric ophthalmology. The textbook concludes with chapters relating specifically to dealing with patients in practice.

The book begins with a brief introduction to ocular anatomy and eye examination and then focuses on core conditions in ophthalmology. Practitioners of complementary medicine increasingly find themselves working alongside conventionally trained doctors and nurses and it is vital for them to develop a core understanding of conventional medical language and philosophy.

In these, the physiology of each system is explored together with the medical investigation, symptoms and treatments of the important diseases which might affect that system. At this reasonable price, I wish that this book had been around last year when I bought a lesser quality text for almost double the price and hardly ever opened it.

Vitreoretinal surgery employs inert gases to flatten the detached retina and endoscopic probes, which allow manipulations in the vitreous space and the dissection of microscopic membranes from the retinal surface. She is particularly committed to encouraging communication and understanding between practitioners of different health disciplines.

Fortunately the discipline has many attractive features. Cataracts are now removed by phacoemulsification, using an oscillating, ultrasonic probe and optical function restored by insertion of a lens which unfolds within the eye. Parulekar Highly Commended in Internal medicine in the BMA Medical Book Awards Highly illustrated, comprehensive, and accessible, Ophthalmology Lecture Notes is the ideal reference and revision guide to common eye problems and their diagnosis and management.

Specular microscopy can image the corneal endothelial cells which regulate corneal hydration and transparency; digital fluorescein angiography allows the retinal capillary bed to be explored in ischaemic retinal disease; optical coherence tomography allows the layers of the retina to be dissected and confocal microscopy provides a threedimensional view of the optic nervehead.

It is also useful for optometrists in training, helping them develop a sound understanding of clinical ophthalmology. Sight-threatening diabetic retinopathy can be treated effectively by retinal photocoagulation, which ablates ischaemic retina and removes the angiogenic stimulus to vasoproliferation.

After introductory sections on physiology, pathology and pharmacology, there follow sections devoted to each of the physiological systems of the body.

The highly structured text, with learning objectives at the start and self assessment at the end of each chapter is designed to facilitate easy access to information, making the book an ideal resource for revision.
